Laser Hair Removal

Long lasting hair reduction

Laser hair removal targets the melanin in hair, which gives it colour. Darker pigments absorb light more effectively, allowing the laser to precisely damage hair follicles while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This process results in smoother, long-lasting hair reduction with minimal discomfort and no damage to the skin.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses light energy to permanently destroy individual hair follicles. The light wavelength is passed through the area of concern, where it is absorbed by the pigment of the follicles. This produces heat, which loosens the hair and hinders the cells involved in hair growth to prevent future hairs.

The hair follicle must be targeted at a specific time during its growth cycle to prevent the hair from returning. As individual hairs could be in different parts of the hair growth cycle at any one time, you will need several sessions to see long-lasting results. We generally suggest around 6 – 8 appointment spread out 4 – 6 weeks apart.

Laser hair removal is suitable for both men and women with all skin tones. It works over your entire body, including sensitive areas.

Why choose laser hair removal?

Our laser hair removal treatment allows you to experience smooth skin, avoiding irritation and any in-grown hairs that can happen when shaving. Furthermore, results are long lasting when compared to other hair removal methods. Unlike IPL, laser hair removal is suitable for dark skin tones and hard-to-reach areas. In contrast to electrolysis, it can be used to remove hair all over the body, with the ability to target large areas at one time. Our LightSheer laser also features the unique ChillTip™ cooling mechanism to calm the skin and increase comfort, ensuring a virtually pain free treatment.

Preparing for treatment

All clients must undergo a consultation before starting laser hair removal at Lifespa. During this session, our qualified therapists will perform a patch test on a small area to ensure your skin’s suitability and rule out any adverse reactions. This also helps determine the optimal laser settings for your specific skin and hair type. Clients must wait one week after the patch test before beginning their first full treatment.

To ensure safe and effective results, your skin must be completely tan-free (natural or fake) for at least four weeks before treatment. Throughout the course of your sessions, it is essential to avoid direct sun exposure, including sunbeds, and apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to prevent pigmentation changes and unwanted skin reactions.

Our laser machine is very precise so can be used to remove hair on the face, underarms, bikini line / Brazilian, back, chest, neck, hands, legs, feet – anywhere on the body where the hair has enough pigment to attract the laser light, even very sensitive areas.
Laser hair removal is safe on all skin types and colours, so it’s suitable for anyone looking for permanent, silky-smooth results. As the laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair follicle, the only consideration is whether your unwanted hair has enough pigment to be treated. Your qualified therapist will discuss this during your consultation.
One of the reasons laser hair removal is ideal for men is that it works equally well across the entire body and has long-lasting results. From a few unwanted tufts, to an entire back, chest or stomach, laser hair removal is efficient and effective. Lifespa offer specialist laser hair removal for men treatments.
Laser hair treatment is fine for any skin type or colour, as long as your hairs are dark enough to attract the laser.
Got a tan? Had a skin reaction to something? No problem, it’s just really important that you let us know, as this can make a difference when it comes to providing the best treatment.
Our highly trained therapists will always provide effective laser hair removal treatment tailored to your skin type.
Compared to the cost of a lifetime’s shaving or waxing, laser hair removal sessions are great value for money. It’s also important to remember that cheaper Laser Hair Removal doesn’t always mean better or safe.
Waxing regularly and over long periods of time can cause damage such as darkening and lightening of the skin (hyper and hypo pigmentation) in grown hairs which can lead to scarring. With laser hair removal as it permanently reduces the thickness of the hairs and isn’t abrasive to the skin it doesn’t have any detrimental effects to the skins tone and texture and as after a course of treatments the hair is reduces in thickness darkness and amount the regularity of removing the hair is massively reduced and can help the skin return near to normal condition.

No – Cancer is caused by UV spectrum of light- ultra violet light which irradiates the cell’s DNA causing irregular growth changes which can cause cancerous growths . Laser hair removal uses the red spectrum of light- specifically infra-red which is only absorbed by the dark pigment in your hair called melanin. This cause no changes to your skin cells and is very safe.

Although laser hair removal is a safe and effective treatment, contraindications must be considered for your own safety.

Pregnancy

It is essential that you do not undergo any laser hair removal treatments whilst you are pregnant to ensure the safety of yourself and your unborn baby. We understand that this can be frustrating, especially as you may find yourself slightly hairier during pregnancy. On a good note this usually disappears after birth, however if it does not, you could consider laser hair removal as an option.

Breastfeeding

Laser hair removal should be avoided whilst you are breastfeeding as it is likely that your hormones will cause changes to your hair growth. This means your treatments will not be as effective as you anticipate. Therefore, you must wait until you have finished breastfeeding before starting laser hair removal especially as it will allow your body to stabiles itself and maximise results.

Medical Conditions

If you suffer from psoriasis, bleeding disorders, severe reactions to histamines, vitiligo or have had previous surgery including chemical peels and laser resurfacing, you may not be suitable for laser hair removal. In addition, if you have any keloid scarring, or open wounds, we will not be able to treat the affected area(s). Our qualified therapists will be able to advise the best course of action during your consultation.

Medication

Most medications will come with side effects, such as those that make your skin more photosensitive. As a result, laser hair removal can trigger your skin in a negative way. To avoid something as such from happening, you may want to take a break from certain medication.

Sun Tan

The sun will lead to your skin creating more melanin, which protects you from any skin damage, however when considering laser hair removal, this can result in your skin becoming patchy and uneven. This will mean that the therapist will have to select a lower setting than usual, making it difficult to maintain uniform hair removal and effect the quality of results. If you are severely sunburned, your laser hair removal treatment cannot proceed. You will be expected to allow the skin to completely heal before starting/continuing with your treatments.

Tattoos

Areas of skin where there is a tattoo must be avoided during laser hair removal treatments. This is to prevent any irritation and potential aesthetic changes to your tattoo.
